Geek Arrow

You know you're a real superhero when you're on Sheldon's shirt. Thanks to Rob Kelly of The Aquaman Shrine for spotting this for me!

Trick Arrow Tuesday! #10 - "Specialty" Arrows

Frankly, I'm not sure I want to live in a world where someone felt that Green Arrow's Trick Arrows would be taken more seriously by someone who doesn't go for that sort of thing if only they were referred to as "Specialty" arrows. I suppose the sort of person who goes for calling them Specialty Arrows rather than Trick Arrows is the sort of person who felt they needed a "scientific" explanation of how these wonderfully entertaining yet preposterous goodies worked in the first place.

MEH!

Joy IS a Gift!

So, in yesterday's post, I mentioned that Russell had emailed me jpeg's of Green Arrow Stock Art as a Birthday gift. Well, I would be more than remiss if I didn't mention the fabulous surprise I received in the mail from my old friend Michael Anthony Carroll.

I received an unexpected envelope in the mail with contained this:

actually, this is someone else's. I haven't taken a photo of mine.

It's the Green Arrow toy from the first batch of Batman:Brave and the Bold McDonald's Happy Meal toys. Which is awesome, because we didn't have one! And he came with two arrows, a pointy one AND the Boxing Glove Arrow! I've already shot the Joker with it numerous times!

Thanks Mike!! You rock!

Let There Be Art!

I've been sitting on these for over a month. Superhero enthusiast and friend of the ArrowCave Russell Burbage emailed me these jpeg's as a Birthday present and I hadn't gotten around to posting them until now. Thanks again, Russell!!

I have an overwhelming fondness for the DC Style Guide art of Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez. I attribute it to a combination of his beautiful, clean-cut depictions of my favorite heroes and my nostalgic fondness for theKenner SuperPowers collection (which I felt I was too old to buy at the time) .

But wait! As an extra bonus, Russell aslo sent me this Super Friends piece by my all-time favorite Lois Lane artist Kurt Schaffenberger!

It's nice to see G.A. drawn by "the Schaff" even if he is tiny and drowned out by his peers.

But we're not done yet. Nosiree! Russel even through in a scan of the Super Jr.'s. So cute they're creepy!

It certainly made my Birthday a little brighter. Thanks.

Trick Arrow Tuesday #9 - The Glue Arrow

GLUE ARROW

Okay, I know what you're saying- "But you already DID the Glue Arrow. Yeah, I guess I did. But that was the Silver Age Glue Arrow as drawn by Lee Elias. This is the Bronze Age Glue Arrow as drawn by Dick Dillin. So. There.

Just speaks to the longevity of an arrow that was clearly working.

More Fun Monday!!

The Arrow Cave's Winter break has drawn to a close and the regular posts will now resume.

More Fun Comics #79 - May, 1942. The Battling Bowmen continue to dominate the cover, with only a tiny inset for The Spectre.

Will the Boomerang come back to plague Green Arrow and Speedy? Gee, I kinda hope so, he's the coolest villain we've seen so far. I also feel that I should say that the artwork keeps getting better as we go.
